About the Wild Vermonter…

At the heart of Wild Vermont Outfitters is Michelle Kennedy—a woman who has spent more than 30 years seeking off-grid places and wild spaces, and who lives to share them with others. An experienced wilderness guide, bushcraft instructor, herbalist, forager, and dog musher, Michelle brings a deep, lived-in knowledge of the natural world to every adventure she leads.

Michelle is also the author of 16 books, including her critically acclaimed memoir, Without a Net: Middle Class and Homeless in America (Viking, 2005), a raw and powerful reflection on resilience. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Family Circle, Redbook, and many other publications—and she’s even had the joy of reading her work on NPR.

Michelle founded Wild Vermont Outfitters to create truly immersive outdoor experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you’re snowshoeing through hushed winter woods, paddling quiet summer waters, foraging for wild edibles, or just learning to feel more at home in nature, Michelle brings storytelling, practical skills, and a whole lot of heart to every outing.

She believes that the forest has something to teach all of us—and she’s here to help you listen.
